BYD will officially launch the third-generation Qin Plus sedan on October 27. The updated model features a redesigned exterior and interior, along with the addition of a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. These changes are intended to boost the competitiveness of the entry-level lineup as the company addresses a significant decline in sales volume.
The new vehicle measures 4,840 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,498 mm in height, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. These dimensions represent an increase of 60 mm, 63 mm, 17 mm, and 82 mm respectively compared to the outgoing version. The interior now includes a 2-spoke steering wheel, a floating touchscreen, and improved storage space based on user feedback.
Technical specifications from regulatory filings indicate the plug-in hybrid version uses a 1.5-liter engine with 74 kW output and a 120 kW electric motor. The battery electric variant is equipped with a 100 kW motor. BYD has not yet announced pricing for the new generation, which currently sits alongside the Qin L and Qin Max models in the company's portfolio.
The redesign follows a period of cooling demand for the series. In the first nine months of the year, cumulative sales for the Qin lineup reached 207 589 vehicles, reflecting a 54.71% year-on-year decrease. While September sales were down 65.27% compared to the same month last year, they showed a monthly growth of 7.54%.
