A design patent for an embodied intelligent robot, held by BYD, has been published by China's National Intellectual Property Administration. The documentation reveals a humanoid structure featuring two arms, two legs, and articulated fingers, with an oval head and exposed mechanical joints at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees.
The patent describes a machine designed for walking, balancing, and interaction, with potential use cases in industrial, educational, and service sectors. The company notes that this patent covers the visual appearance and does not confirm the final product design, performance specifications, or mass production timelines.
BYD previously announced plans to debut a humanoid robot in August at its Di Space exhibition venue, though the product has not been formally unveiled as of October 9. The company aims to leverage its existing manufacturing, software, and hardware expertise, as well as automotive AI foundations, to develop its robotics business.
Executive vice president Stella Li has stated that the company intends to deploy two to three robots at each dealership to assist with vehicle demonstrations. BYD is also considering the use of its automotive sales network to distribute future household robots and plans to build an open platform for its own and third-party robotic products.
