BYD has officially teased the domestic launch of its Fang Cheng Bao Shark plug-in hybrid pickup truck. General Manager Xiong Tianbo confirmed the upcoming release in China, describing the move as the model returning from overseas markets.
The vehicle, previously known as the Shark 6, debuted globally in Mexico in May 2024. It is currently sold in Australia, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the UAE. Australia remains the primary market, representing about 85% of sales in June 2026.
According to MIIT filings, the Chinese version features a 1.5T engine with a 1,497 ml displacement. The powertrain delivers a maximum net power of 135 kW and a total output of 143 kW, complying with China VI emission standards.
The decision to introduce the model domestically follows a decline in export performance. In the first half of 2026, export volumes for the Shark 6 totaled 20 037 units, marking a 25.76% year-over-year decrease.
