BYD has officially opened blind pre-orders for the second generation of its Seagull electric vehicle in China. The new model, referred to as the Great Seagull, is scheduled for a full market launch by the end of 2026. While pricing remains undisclosed, the company confirmed the vehicle will be available in six exterior color options.
The updated Seagull features significant dimensional growth, measuring 4,205 mm in length with a 2,650 mm wheelbase, representing an increase of 425 mm and 150 mm respectively over the current version. The vehicle transitions to a rear-mounted electric motor, delivering 95 kW of power compared to the 55 kW output of the predecessor.
Interior upgrades include a larger infotainment display, a redesigned center console, and new physical controls on the steering wheel and dashboard. Premium additions feature ambient lighting and massaging front seats. The vehicle also incorporates a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor to support the God’s Eye B intelligent driving system.
The current Seagull model remains a top-selling electric vehicle globally, with over 212,000 units sold through August. It is marketed internationally under names such as Dolphin Surf and Dolphin Mini. BYD intends to introduce the larger second-generation version to overseas markets following its initial release in China.
