The Russian low-orbit satellite constellation Rassvet will consist of several hundred spacecraft. According to Dmitry Agafonov, Deputy CEO of Bureau 1440, the system will utilize laser communication links between satellites to transmit data without constant reliance on ground infrastructure.
The constellation will follow a polar orbit scheme, with satellites passing over the Earth's poles. This configuration is intended to provide comprehensive coverage across Russian territory for various applications, including geological exploration and emergency services.
Bureau 1440 is developing a range of user terminals for connection. Additionally, the company plans to equip more than 500 high-speed and long-distance trains with its satellite terminals by 2027.
In 2026, the company successfully launched the first two batches of Rassvet satellites. These spacecraft feature 5G NTN communication architecture, upgraded power systems, next-generation laser terminals, and plasma propulsion units.
