BMW has launched trial production of its intelligent energy control system at the powertrain plant in Shenyang, China. This facility is now the only site outside of Germany capable of manufacturing this specific component, which serves as the central control unit for the company's sixth-generation power batteries.

The system, developed entirely in-house by BMW, is mounted on top of the battery pack to manage multi-threaded operations and ensure high-voltage safety. With this launch, BMW has achieved full localization of all core processes for its sixth-generation batteries in China, including R&D, component supply, cell manufacturing, and system assembly.

To prepare for the launch, the team utilized virtual planning and debugging tools to simulate production scenarios and identify optimizations before installing physical equipment. This approach aims to accelerate equipment ramp-up, mitigate project risks, and improve overall system maturity.

The Shenyang plant is currently the only facility in BMW's global production network that integrates casting, engine production, power battery manufacturing, and intelligent energy control system assembly within a single site.
