The State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China have officially released the mandatory national standard GB 36672-2026. This regulation focuses on safety requirements for lithium-ion batteries used in electric motorcycles and mopeds.

The new standard will come into effect on July 1, 2027. It replaces the previous voluntary standard, transitioning it into a mandatory requirement to ensure higher safety performance across the industry.

The regulation introduces a comprehensive safety assessment system covering battery cells, packs, and systems. It mandates new testing protocols for low-temperature charging, mechanical impact, thermal runaway, and flame retardancy to better reflect real-world usage.

Additionally, the standard establishes uniform testing and evaluation rules. These measures aim to standardize industry procedures, improve product quality control, and provide a clear technical framework for compliance and market regulation.
