Sandhya Venkatachalam, former general partner at Social Capital and investor at Khosla Ventures, has launched Axiom Partners. The new venture capital firm operates with a fund size of $52 million.
Axiom Partners focuses on startups applying AI in sectors such as construction, industrials, and insurance. The firm prioritizes companies that deliver measurable outcomes rather than traditional enterprise software tools.
The investment strategy involves targeting non-obvious founders and industries. Axiom utilizes an internal tool called Axiom Brain to analyze market trends and accelerate due diligence processes.
The firm employs a team of active AI practitioners who work part-time and receive carry in the fund. This model aims to keep the firm's investment perspective aligned with current market developments.
Axiom plans to make 35 investments from its current fund. Venkatachalam anticipates that approximately half of these bets may fail, relying on the potential for exceptional outcomes from outliers to deliver returns.
