The Australian government has launched the third round of its DRIVEN programme, allocating AUD 18.8 million to support EV infrastructure at dealerships and repair shops. The initiative aims to prepare automotive businesses for the increasing number of electric vehicles on the road.
Under the Charger Rebate Stream, businesses can claim up to AUD 3,000 per charging plug, with a site cap of AUD 21,000 for chargers and an overall limit of AUD 50,000 per location. The programme requires applicants to demonstrate at least AUD 5,000 in eligible expenditure.
For the first time, the funding covers up to 80 per cent of costs for specialized workshop tools, lifting apparatus, and PPE. Applications for this round of the federal scheme remain open until 30 April 2027.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen noted that electric vehicle sales in Australia have recently surpassed those of petrol cars. The Australian Automotive Dealer Association welcomed the expansion, citing ongoing industry investments in service equipment.
