Apple plans to introduce the Live Rewind feature for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Powered by the S11 chip, the tool allows users to trigger a 15-second audio-to-text transcription by double-clicking the Digital Crown. The feature is designed to help users capture missed or unfamiliar information during conversations.
Privacy is managed through on-device processing within the S11 chip's Secure Exclave, which isolates sensor data from the operating system and third-party access. Once the screen dims for 30 seconds, the transcribed text is permanently deleted unless the user saves it to the Siri app. Audio data is processed and deleted immediately after entering the Secure Exclave.
The feature includes mandatory audio alerts and visual indicators, such as full-screen animations and microphone icons, to notify others when recording is active. These alerts sound even if the device is muted or connected to headphones. The function does not run in the background and only activates upon user request.
Compatibility requires an iPhone 16 or newer, along with active Apple Intelligence and Siri AI settings. The feature is restricted to users aged 13 and older. Apple intends to release Live Rewind later this year, though it will not be included in the initial versions of watchOS 27 and iOS 27.
