Apple has updated its App Store guidelines to explicitly prohibit applications that use artificial intelligence to generate nonconsensual intimate imagery. These tools, often referred to as nudify apps, are now strictly banned under the company's refreshed content moderation policies.

The policy update mandates that developers must proactively identify and remove sexual content generated without consent. Failure to implement these safeguards or address violations after receiving a formal notice from Apple will result in the removal of the developer's applications from the App Store.

Apple also introduced stricter rules against bait-and-switch tactics. Developers are now prohibited from adding or modifying features, such as nudification capabilities, after their applications have already received approval.

The company further clarified that any software facilitating human trafficking or the exploitation of children will be removed from the App Store and blocked from alternative distribution channels. This follows pressure from officials, including a July request from a San Francisco city attorney to remove 13 specific apps.
