Apple is expanding its server hardware program to include enterprise-grade solutions, moving beyond internal AI workloads. The company aims to compete in a market currently led by Dell and HPE, leveraging its proprietary Apple Silicon architecture.

The initiative is supported by a manufacturing facility in Houston, which spans 250 000 square feet. This site began shipping servers in October 2025 as part of a $600 billion commitment to US-based infrastructure.

Apple has been developing custom server hardware since 2016 to reduce reliance on third-party suppliers. Current systems utilize a compact 2U rackmount design, which was revealed in leaked images in August 2026.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple expects to start mass production of specialized AI server chips in the second half of 2026. These processors, based on M5-era silicon, are intended for large-scale deployment by 2027.

The company focuses on AI inference workloads, prioritizing low-power processing and data security. This approach targets industries with strict regulatory requirements, such as finance and healthcare, by offering private cloud computing capabilities.
