Apple has increased the prices of existing iPhone models following its autumn product launch, deviating from the company's historical practice of lowering prices for older devices. The price adjustments are particularly significant in the Indian market, where the cost of new models has risen sharply compared to the United States.
The iPhone 18 Pro saw a price increase of approximately 9% in the US, moving from $1,099 to $1,199. In contrast, the price in India jumped from ₹134,900 to ₹164,900, representing a hike of over 22%. Similarly, the iPhone 18 Pro Max rose by 8% in the US to $1,299, while the Indian price climbed 20% to ₹179,900.
The most notable price disparity concerns the new foldable iPhone Duo. With a starting price of $1,999 in the US, the device is priced at ₹299,900 in India, marking a 57% premium. These figures are calculated based on an exchange rate of ₹95 to $1, which highlights the significant cost difference for consumers in the region.
Despite India serving as a major production hub for Apple, with companies like Foxconn and Tata expanding local manufacturing capacity, these operations have not led to lower consumer prices. Industry estimates suggest that one-quarter of global iPhone production will take place in India this year, yet local pricing remains substantially higher than in the US market.
