Apple is set to unveil its first MacBook Pro featuring an OLED touchscreen, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The device will be positioned as an ultra-premium model, sold alongside existing non-touch versions. The 14-inch model is expected to start at $2899, while the 16-inch version will begin at $3399, marking a $700 increase over the M5 Pro models released four months ago.
The new laptop introduces an OLED display with a Dynamic Island and thinner bezels. Internally, it is powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. To accommodate touch interaction, Apple redesigned the hinge damping to stabilize the screen during use. The chassis is also thinner and lighter compared to previous iterations.
Engineers implemented a new thermal module that routes airflow through the hinge area. This design aims to manage the heat generated by the OLED panel and the increased power consumption from touch functionality. The project was reportedly initiated by Tim Cook four years ago in response to consistent user demand for touchscreen capabilities.
