Apple has opened the App Store submission channel for applications optimized for the upcoming iPhone Duo. Developers are encouraged to use Xcode 27.1 to recompile their software or build new versions that support the device's foldable screen capabilities.

The new Xcode 27.1 includes the Device Hub tool, which allows developers to simulate the iPhone Duo's performance across various folding states, orientations, and screen configurations. This ensures that apps can dynamically adjust their interfaces to utilize the expanded display area effectively.

While existing apps will run on the iPhone Duo, those not optimized may appear with black borders on the internal screen. Apps rebuilt with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later will display a special optimization badge on their App Store product pages, signaling full support for the new hardware.

The iPhone Duo is scheduled for release on October 23, with pre-orders beginning on October 16. Developers are currently working to meet the submission deadline to ensure their apps are ready for the device's launch day.

Apple has set a mandatory requirement for all App Store submissions to include iPhone Duo screenshots starting in April 2027. This transition period allows developers time to adapt their UI designs, such as navigation bars and dual-pane layouts, for the foldable form factor.
