Apple has clarified that the new texture and grain controls within Photographic Styles are restricted to specific hardware. While initial press materials suggested broader compatibility with older devices running iOS 27, the company updated its documentation to specify that these features are limited to images captured on the latest models.

The advanced editing tools, which allow users to adjust skin texture and add film grain, are exclusively available for photos taken on iPhone 18 Pro devices, as well as the Ultra Wide, Main, and Center Stage cameras on the iPhone Duo. Users of older hardware, including the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 series, cannot apply these effects to their own photos.

Testing confirms that while owners of older iPhones running iOS 27 can access the interface for these controls, the functionality only triggers when editing sample images captured on the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple has not provided further details regarding the technical limitations or potential future updates for these specific camera features on legacy devices.
