Apple has released iOS 27, featuring a redesigned Siri AI assistant. The new tool, built on Apple Intelligence, is now available for testing ahead of the iPhone 18 launch. Users can enable the feature via settings, though some may face a waitlist. The assistant can process personal data like emails and messages, answer complex queries, and perform cross-app operations.

The system utilizes smaller, proprietary models designed to run locally on Apple hardware. For more demanding tasks, Apple employs Private Cloud Compute, which leverages Google Cloud infrastructure powered by Nvidia and Intel chips. Additionally, the company is developing its own AI models using Google Gemini technology.

Access to certain cloud-based AI features is currently subject to daily usage limits. Apple plans to introduce paid subscription tiers in the future to provide higher capacity. The service currently supports only English, with plans to add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish next month.

The rollout excludes the European Union and China markets for now. John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook as CEO on September 1, highlighted the iPhone 18 as the core device for this ecosystem. The project was first announced in June 2024 but faced initial delays before this official beta release.
