Apple plans to introduce Apple Intelligence to the mainland Chinese market in December 2024, coinciding with the expected release of the iOS 27.3 update. This rollout follows approximately two years after the initial global launch of the AI suite. The company aims to bridge the gap with competitors like Huawei, Xiaomi, and OPPO, who already offer generative AI features in their devices.

The deployment follows approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which granted Apple network access permits. These permits allow the integration of Alibaba’s Qwen and Tongyi Wanxiang models into iPhone products. Supported devices are expected to include the new iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, and certain previously released models.

Despite the launch, the initial version for China will be limited. Key features such as the upgraded Siri AI, Image Playground, and Genmoji will not be included in the first release. Text generation tools will also have restricted capabilities compared to the global version, as Apple must comply with local regulatory requirements for generative AI services.

Apple has been collaborating with local partners, including Alibaba and Baidu, to develop technical solutions for service deployment, data processing, and model updates. All AI services in China remain subject to ongoing regulatory approval and oversight. The company continues to work on balancing local compliance with the goal of maintaining a consistent user experience.
