Apple is expanding its smart home portfolio through a partnership with LG. The collaboration includes the development of six new devices, as identified in the HomeKitMatter table within the iOS 27.2 system code. These products are branded under LG's GEMS line, though the specific distinctions between GEMS and non-GEMS versions remain undisclosed.
The smart lock, model TMCDD15G/TMCDD15S, comes in graphite and silver finishes and runs on four AA batteries. It utilizes Bluetooth, Thread, NFC, and UWB technologies. Access is granted by verifying credentials via Bluetooth, followed by UWB-based proximity detection. Apple is also reportedly planning a separate collaboration with Schneider for additional smart home hardware.
The smart thermostat, model TMCTAW5W, features a circular design and supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread. It includes a 60GHz radar sensor for human presence detection and offers settings for humidity display, screen brightness, and language. Users can also perform temperature calibration and offset adjustments.
The circular temperature sensor, model TMST2A6W, measures both temperature and humidity. It is powered by a 3V CR2477 coin battery and supports Bluetooth Low Energy and Thread. The device features a magnetic back for mounting on metal surfaces, includes a metal plate for other installations, and provides low-battery alerts.
