Apple held its Surprise and Shine event on September 9, marking the keynote debut of CEO John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook on September 1. The company introduced the A20 Pro chip, the first smartphone processor built on TSMC's 2-nanometer process. It features a 32-core Neural Engine, a six-core CPU, and a seven-core GPU, offering performance gains of up to 20% and 40% respectively over the A19 Pro.

The new Siri AI, which integrates Google's Gemini technology via a deal reportedly valued at $1 billion annually, will launch in beta this month. It supports interaction across more than 300,000 third-party applications. However, the assistant will not be available on devices in the European Union at launch. The feature is restricted to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup includes the A20 Pro chip and a new vapor chamber cooling system. Apple also unveiled its first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, which features a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch inner screen. The foldable model supports the Apple Pencil and Touch ID, with pricing ranging from $1,999 for 256GB to approximately $3,000 for the 2TB version.

The iPhone Duo is scheduled for release in October, one month after the rest of the new lineup. Meanwhile, iOS 27, which includes the updated Siri AI, will be available starting September 14. This software update supports devices dating back to the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE, though advanced AI capabilities remain limited to newer hardware.
