Apple has appointed Steve Smith as the new head of mergers and acquisitions and corporate development. Smith, a long-time veteran of the corporate development department, previously served as deputy to Adrian Perica. In his new role, Smith will report directly to Apple Chief Financial Officer Kevan Parekh.

Adrian Perica, who led Apple's M&A strategy for over a decade, is transitioning to a new role within the services division. He will focus on managing iCloud, Fitness+, and Apple News, reporting to services chief Eddy Cue. Internal discussions suggest Perica is a potential successor to Cue, alongside Apple Music executive Oliver Schusser.

The company also promoted Carson Oliver to Vice President of the App Store. Oliver will report to Eddy Cue, filling the leadership gap left by Phil Schiller, who stepped down from the position in August. This move completes the management transition for the App Store division.

These leadership changes follow John Ternus assuming the role of Apple CEO in September. The restructuring aims to refine management responsibilities across key growth areas, including M&A, services, and the App Store, as part of a broader strategy to prepare for the company's long-term leadership succession.
