Apple announced the upcoming Siri Recap feature for Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, scheduled for a beta release later this year. The tool automatically generates summaries and key points from conversations without storing audio recordings.
The process utilizes the S11 chip's Secure Exclave to detect speech, which is then encrypted and sent to a paired iPhone for processing before being permanently deleted. The system provides summaries but does not produce full transcripts or identify speakers.
The market for wrist-based note-taking includes competitors like Granola, which raised $125 million in a Series C round in March at a $1.5 billion valuation. Granola's app, launched in July, supports full transcripts and action items.
Other players like Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai focus on enterprise workflows and integrations rather than direct watch-based recording. Apple's entry targets casual users, while the adoption rate of Siri Recap will determine its impact on standalone note-taking apps.
