Authentic Brands Group, which manages the Elvis Presley estate, has filed a lawsuit against AI developer Anthropic. The plaintiff alleges that the company used 274 of the artist's songs to train its AI models without obtaining the necessary licenses or permissions.

The legal complaint highlights that users can prompt the Claude AI to recreate or modify Presley's tracks. According to the filing, the output closely mirrors the original structure and musical arrangements, which the plaintiff characterizes as unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted material rather than mere inspiration.

The lawsuit seeks damages of $150,000 for each of the 274 alleged copyright infringements, totaling approximately $41 million. Additionally, the estate is requesting a permanent injunction to prevent Anthropic from using the singer's musical catalog in its future training processes.

Anthropic has officially denied the allegations of copyright infringement. The company stated that it disagrees with the claims brought forward by the estate and intends to defend its position in court against these accusations.
