Anthropic has signed a major agreement with SpaceX to secure computing power for its AI training and inference needs. The deal provides access to over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and more than 300 megawatts of power through the Colossus data center network in Memphis, Tennessee.
The contract runs through May 2029, with Anthropic committing to monthly payments of $1.25 billion. While the total potential spending under all SpaceX-related contracts is capped at $120.5 billion, Anthropic's draft IPO materials estimate projected expenditures at $84.5 billion through 2029.
The agreement includes early-stage ramp-up discounts and allows either party to terminate the contract with 90 days notice. This partnership adds to Anthropic's total infrastructure commitments across all providers, which currently exceed $500 billion.
The Colossus facilities were originally developed by xAI before being integrated into SpaceX's infrastructure. Both companies have expressed interest in future space-based AI compute solutions, though the current agreement remains strictly terrestrial.
