Anthropic and OpenEvidence have launched a collaboration to provide AI-driven clinical decision support to doctors in regions with limited access to medical resources. The initiative targets healthcare providers in approximately 100 countries, including Angola, Haiti, Mongolia, Sudan, and Uganda.
The OpenEvidence platform utilizes peer-reviewed medical research and treatment guidelines to assist physicians with clinical queries. While the service is already available for free to clinicians in the United States and Europe, this new version is specifically designed for providers in low and middle-income nations.
The project aims to address challenges such as shortages of medical literature, specialist expertise, and ongoing education. Critics have noted that AI systems trained on data from wealthier countries may not always align with local medical practice conditions.
This partnership follows Anthropic's recent establishment of a laboratory focused on AI-driven drug development. The company has indicated to potential investors that its healthcare and biology initiatives are part of a broader strategy as it prepares for a public offering.
