AMD has announced that its FSR 4.1 super-resolution technology will be expanded to support a broader range of APUs in the future. Jack Huynh, General Manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics Business Group, confirmed the update in a recent video announcement.
Currently, the FSR 4.1 technology is limited to specific processors, including Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 9, Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme, and the Ryzen Z2 A. This initial rollout excludes many widely used models from the Ryzen 7000, 8000, 300, and 400 series.
Technical analysis suggests that older hardware may be capable of running the technology. For instance, the Ryzen Z2 A features only 8 RDNA 2 compute units, implying that lower-end models from the 7000, 8000, 300, and 400 series, as well as some Ryzen 6000 series chips, possess sufficient performance to support FSR 4.1.
