AMD CEO Lisa Su announced plans to invest tens of billions of dollars into the global supply chain. This commitment significantly exceeds the $10 billion pledge the company made in May 2026.
The decision follows a surge in AI-driven demand that has outpaced the company's existing supply capacity for 2026. AMD expects this high demand to persist for several years.
To address the shortages, the company intends to substantially increase its output of CPUs and GPUs in 2027. AMD is extending its capacity planning horizon with suppliers from one-to-two years to three-to-five years.
AMD will maintain its fabless business model and will not build its own manufacturing plants. Instead, the company is strengthening partnerships with key suppliers, including TSMC, Foxconn, Samsung, and SK Hynix.
The strategy focuses on ensuring the availability of wafers, advanced packaging, and substrates. Su discussed these plans during a visit to Taiwan on October 6, 2026, with further meetings scheduled in South Korea.
