A Reddit user reported a failed purchase of a Gigabyte RTX 5090 Aero white edition through Amazon UAE's official resale channel. The buyer paid AED 14,916, which is approximately half the market price for the hardware.
Upon receiving the package, the user noted minor wear on the exterior box. However, internal inspection revealed that the power connector was loose and several fan headers on the back of the PCB were disconnected, suggesting tampering.
After removing the cooler, the user discovered that the mounting screws were loose and thermal material residue remained on the heatsink. The primary GB202 core and GDDR7 memory chips were completely missing from the board.
The incident appears to be a fraudulent return scheme where the original components were harvested and the gutted card was returned to the platform. Amazon's inspection process failed to detect the missing core before relisting the item.
The buyer has initiated a return request with Amazon for the empty shell. As of the report, the platform has not provided a definitive response regarding the refund process.
