Amazon has initiated a new round of workforce reductions, primarily impacting its Stores division. The company confirmed that a small number of positions were eliminated, with reports indicating that fewer than 1,000 white-collar employees are affected across the United States, India, and the United Kingdom.
The layoffs specifically target teams within the retail organization, including customer service and selling partner services. This decision follows a significant period of downsizing that saw the elimination of 30,000 positions between 2025 and January 2026.
The announcement coincided with the conclusion of the Prime Big Deal Days, a two-day shopping event held on October 6 and 7. Amazon stated that these organizational adjustments are intended to better align the business structure with current corporate priorities.
According to data from Layoffs.fyi, the broader technology sector has seen over 131,000 job losses across 314 companies globally during 2026. Amazon continues to favor targeted, smaller-scale reductions as it adjusts its workforce following aggressive hiring during the pandemic.
