Amazon is investing over $100 million to construct a new 54,000-square-meter robotics manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana. The plant is scheduled to begin operations by 2028 and will focus on producing components for the company's logistics and robotics systems across North America.
The new site will create 300 jobs in engineering and manufacturing, including roles for CNC operators, welders, and quality control specialists. Employees are expected to earn an average annual salary of nearly $100,000. The facility will utilize AI-driven production systems, cloud technologies, and automated welding and painting processes.
This expansion brings Amazon's total number of robotics plants to four. The company recently announced another facility in Austin, Texas. According to The Wall Street Journal, these two new sites will double Amazon's robotics production capacity. Currently, the company operates two plants in Massachusetts, established following the 2012 acquisition of Kiva Systems.
To date, Amazon has manufactured over one million robots in the United States. These machines are deployed across more than 300 facilities globally and currently assist in processing 75 percent of all customer orders.
