Indian carrier Akasa Air is currently exploring a potential order for over 200 additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. If finalized, this deal would bring the airline's total order book to more than 426 planes, marking a significant expansion of its operational fleet.

The negotiations are currently in the early stages. A formal decision regarding the new order is expected in early 2027, after which the parties will proceed to negotiate the specific commercial terms of the agreement.

The airline currently operates 43 aircraft. It has an existing backlog of 226 planes, with 183 units still pending delivery. These deliveries are scheduled to be completed by 2032.

Akasa Air began building its fleet before launching commercial operations in 2022. The company previously ordered 72 aircraft in 2021 and added another 150 units in January 2024, including Boeing 737-10 and 737-8-200 models.

Fleet growth has faced challenges due to delivery delays from Boeing. According to Reuters, in March 2025, 310 of the airline's 775 pilots were grounded because the company lacked enough aircraft to maintain full flight schedules.
