Mod creator LTSharpe utilized the Claude AI agent to optimize the performance of the Oblivion Remastered game. Working over a two-week period, the pair reverse-engineered the game without access to the original source code.
The process involved building a benchmarking framework to identify performance bottlenecks. Claude helped diagnose and resolve issues within the Unreal Engine, the original Gamebryo engine, and AMD frame generation code.
The resulting modifications led to an increase in average frame rates of up to 48 percent and a 90 percent reduction in stuttering. These changes were achieved without altering game assets or visuals.
The developer, who uses a Ryzen 7 5800X processor and a Radeon graphics card, noted that the fixes were initially tailored for his specific hardware configuration. The mod is currently available on NexusMods.
