AgoraOS is a Unix-like operating system developed within the Godot engine using GDScript. The project aims to simulate network and system architecture rather than providing a visual imitation. The system implements core Unix principles, including file-based configuration, process management, and a functional network stack.
The system architecture mirrors real hardware and software environments. Processes are managed as GDScript coroutines, and the kernel operates in a headless mode. Configuration is handled through files in /etc, /proc, and /dev, allowing for authentic system behavior such as manual user management and file-based package installation.
The network simulation includes protocols like Ethernet, ARP, ICMP, DHCP, and TCP. Physical interactions, such as disconnecting cables or misconfiguring hardware, trigger realistic system responses. The environment recreates a 2003-era internet, featuring servers, web pages, and a search engine, with plans to introduce multiplayer functionality.
The developer also released Nordwand-Mono, an open-source neo-grotesque font designed for terminal use and Neovim. The font was created from scratch using Python.
