Adobe has updated its Lightroom mobile application for iOS, iPadOS, and Android with a new generative AI feature. The tool, called Open Eyes Quick Action, automatically detects closed eyes on subjects in photos and allows users to correct them with a single tap.
Unlike the existing feature in Photoshop Elements, which pulls data from other photos of the subject, the new Lightroom tool uses generative AI to synthesize eyes that match the lighting and pose of the original image. The app references other photos of the same person in the user's library to ensure the color, size, and shape of the eyes are accurate.
While similar generative AI capabilities exist in other Adobe applications like Photoshop, the Lightroom mobile implementation is designed as a one-tap solution. Users on the free version of the mobile app are limited to two uses of the feature before they are prompted to subscribe to an Adobe Creative Cloud plan for additional AI credits.
