The ZET SCALE alliance, a coalition of freight companies, has placed an order for 2,500 Tesla Semi electric trucks in the United States. The group, founded by Catalyst Mobility and the Smart Freight Centre, aims to reduce procurement costs for battery-electric Class 8 vehicles through bulk purchasing.
Tesla has been selected as the primary supplier for this initial order. Kenworth, Volvo, and RIDE have been named secondary suppliers, offering alternative models to meet specific operational requirements. The alliance members include major corporations such as Microsoft and PepsiCo.
The 2,500 trucks will be deployed across ten freight hubs, including Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Chicago, and the New York area. The alliance is supported by ZET Financial, which manages a leasing program designed to mitigate residual value risks for fleet operators.
This deal nearly doubles the current US fleet of electric Class 8 trucks. The long-term goal of the ZET SCALE alliance is to facilitate the deployment of over 10,000 electric vehicles on American roads. Tesla also recently secured an order for 50 Semi trucks from IMC Logistics.
