The Taiwanese government is planning to develop industrial parks in Texas to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor supply chain. The project aims to support smaller manufacturers that provide essential components to major corporations like TSMC, Foxconn, and Wistron but currently lack the capital to expand into the United States independently.
The initiative involves an estimated investment of between $2 billion and $4 billion per site. Officials have confirmed that the government intends to establish more than one industrial park. A specific plot of land in Texas has already been secured for the project, though further details regarding the location remain undisclosed.
To facilitate the expansion, the government will provide loan guarantees to participating companies. Additionally, authorities will assist these businesses with administrative processes, including obtaining visas and necessary permits for U.S. operations. The project is designed to be accessible to both Taiwanese and American firms.
While the primary goal is to shorten the supply chain for AI semiconductors, the infrastructure will be open to other companies as well. Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin noted that firms such as Elon Musk’s Terafab could potentially utilize the new supply chain, though he emphasized that core technologies will not be transferred for vertical integration.
