Xpeng has launched its first global X-Energy megawatt charging station in Hong Kong. Developed in collaboration with local operator Halo, the facility is open to electric vehicles of all brands. The station features a peak output of 1 megawatt, a current of up to 1,000 amps, and 400 kWh of integrated energy storage. This storage system limits grid connection requirements to 240 kW, which helps avoid expensive power distribution network upgrades.
The company plans to expand this technology to Europe, following the initial presentation of the X-Energy platform in Munich on July 16. The system supports grid inputs between 120 kW and 240 kW with a round-trip efficiency of 91.5%. While Xpeng has not yet released a vehicle model capable of megawatt charging, the company aims to integrate this tech with its 10C ultra-fast charging and AI detection capabilities in future European deployments.
Xpeng is currently scaling its infrastructure alongside its vehicle sales. In August, the company delivered 39,107 vehicles, bringing the total for the first eight months of the year to 243,111 units. CEO He Xiaopeng has set a target to exceed 60,000 monthly sales in the fourth quarter. The company has not provided a specific timeline for the rollout of additional megawatt charging stations beyond the initial Hong Kong site.
