Xiaomi has initiated the global beta testing phase for HyperOS 4, which is based on Android 17. The operating system was initially released in China in mid-August 2026 and is now expanding to international smartphone models.
The first testing group includes seven devices: Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, Xiaomi 17T, Xiaomi 17T Pro, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15. Beta builds for the first three models are currently available, while the remaining four will receive access on September 17.
The update introduces the Soft Light Glass visual style, enhanced home screen customization, and faster application launch times. Xiaomi has also integrated additional artificial intelligence features into the system.
Camera improvements include a redesigned HDR algorithm for faster processing and increased responsiveness in the camera app. The update also aims to improve video playback, overall system performance, and interface smoothness.
Users can apply for the beta program via the Xiaomi Community app. The company notes that installing the beta version via OTA prevents a standard rollback to previous system versions, requiring a full device reflash via the bootloader for downgrading.
