Xeal, a New York-based EV charging operator, has launched Laitent, a network designed to utilize spare electrical capacity at charging stations for AI inference. The company operates one of the five largest Level 2 charging networks in the US, with over 1,600 chargers across more than 500 cities. These sites possess over 200 MW of grid-connected capacity, which currently operates at less than 10% utilization during charging hours.

The Laitent system uses compact units called Laitent Pods, each capable of housing up to 48 Nvidia GPUs from the Hopper or Blackwell Ultra lines. These outdoor-ready units are designed to operate at noise levels below 65 dB. Xeal plans to deploy more than 100,000 GPUs across its network, targeting response times of under 20 milliseconds in metropolitan areas.

The company has partnered with Rafay Systems and Spectrum Business to support the project. The first Laitent Pod installation is scheduled for the end of 2026 in collaboration with JVM Realty. Xeal claims that each Pod installation could increase property value by up to $1 million.

Founded in 2019, Xeal has raised between $54 million and $64 million in venture funding to date, including a $40 million Series B round in 2024. To achieve its long-term goals, the company aims to secure approximately $2 billion in project financing over the next 18 months.
