Helen Chiang, the first Chief Operating Officer of Xbox, is leaving Microsoft after 21 years with the company. Her departure comes just three months after she was appointed to the newly created role in July.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the departure in an internal memo on October 23. Chiang previously managed the Minecraft business before taking on the COO position, which was established as part of a broader organizational restructuring.

Chiang was responsible for the profit and loss of content, hardware, platform, and service operations. She reported directly to Sharma and was tasked with integrating business units into a unified operating model.

Following her exit, her responsibilities will be temporarily distributed among other Xbox executives. The company has not yet announced plans for the future of the COO position, and a spokesperson declined to comment on specific personnel matters.
