World Liberty Financial, a DeFi project linked to the Trump family, has launched a program to repurchase its governance token, WLFI. The initiative was officially announced on November 6, 2026, as a long-term strategy to manage token supply and incentivize long-term participation in protocol governance.

The buyback program is funded by various sources, including revenue generated from reserves backing the project's USD1 stablecoin. This mechanism allows the protocol to scale its repurchase activity in alignment with the growth and performance of the USD1 ecosystem, creating a direct link between stablecoin adoption and token demand.

This new effort builds upon a previous initiative from September 2025, when the project began using fees from protocol-owned liquidity to purchase and burn WLFI tokens. In late 2025, the protocol executed a buyback of approximately $10 million, which resulted in the removal of 59 million WLFI tokens from circulation.

The project intends to maintain transparency by publicly reporting all buyback activities. By removing repurchased tokens from the market, the protocol aims to increase scarcity and consolidate voting power among committed holders, rather than encouraging short-term speculative trading.
