World, a project supported by Sam Altman, has launched biometric verification badges for Zoom enterprise users. The integration is designed to verify that participants in video calls are real people, helping to mitigate risks associated with AI-driven deepfake impersonation and fraud.

The system works by comparing a live selfie and a video feed against data captured by the company's iris-scanning Orb. Once verified, a Human Badge appears on the screen for other meeting participants. The feature is now accessible globally via the Zoom Marketplace.

The project was initially announced in April and underwent beta testing with VanEck Funds. Other initial design partners for the identity verification technology include Bain Capital and Pantera Capital. The rollout addresses security concerns following high-profile incidents.

In 2024, an Arup employee transferred $25 million after scammers used deepfakes to impersonate executives during a video call. Additionally, in February, hackers linked to North Korea utilized fabricated video feeds to trick fintech and crypto firms into installing malware.
