The HarmonyOS version of WeChat has launched a beta testing phase for version 8.0.22.44, which is available through the Huawei App Gallery. The testing period is scheduled from October 16, 2026, to November 15, 2026. Users invited to participate receive a notification via SMS containing a download link.
The update introduces several functional changes, including new notification settings for private messages and expanded contact information fields for notes, phone numbers, and photos. In the Channels section, the user profile now displays a combined view of likes, favorites, and recent history. Additionally, users can now delete specific system messages in chats, such as recall notifications and红包 alerts.
New features also include document presentation tools during group voice or video calls, allowing for annotations. Users can now view video-based Moments covers set by themselves or their friends. The update also adds an order selection tool in the customer service center for gray-scale wallet users.
A key integration allows users to send WeChat messages via voice commands using the Celia assistant. This feature requires initial authorization for Celia to connect with the messaging app. Currently, voice-activated messaging is limited to individual contacts and does not support group chats.
