Warner Music Group and AI music platform Suno have transitioned from legal opponents to business partners. The companies signed a licensing agreement that allows Suno to train its AI models on WMG’s catalog, establishing a revenue-sharing model for artists and songwriters.
The partnership, initially announced in November 2025, resulted in the release of the Suno v6 model suite on September 9, 2026. This suite includes the v6, v6-wild, and v6-mini versions, which utilize licensed content from WMG, BMG, and Believe.
The agreement resolves a 2024 copyright lawsuit filed by WMG against Suno. Under the new terms, artists can opt in to have their work and likenesses used for AI-generated features and remixes, providing them with a new stream of income alongside traditional streaming revenue.
While WMG has settled, Universal Music Group and Sony Music continue their active litigation against Suno. Consequently, the new v6 models are trained on a partial segment of the global music library, as Suno has officially retired its previous models.
