Walapay Inc., a global payments infrastructure provider, has secured $4.6 million in a seed funding round. The investment was led by Generative Ventures, with participation from Commerce Ventures, Polygon, Verda Ventures, NGC Ventures, FGV Capital, Digital Finance Group, Jsquare, Knollwood, and Big Brain Holdings.
Founded by Tom and Dimitri Borgers, the company utilizes blockchain technology and stablecoins to facilitate cross-border payments. The platform aims to bypass traditional banking intermediaries, which often involve multiple service providers and result in increased fees and settlement delays.
The infrastructure provides instant settlement for multicurrency accounts and supports operations in emerging markets across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Walapay enables businesses to issue their own stablecoins and offers custody support for digital assets, tailored to regional regulatory requirements.
The company plans to use the new capital to expand its licensing footprint and strengthen banking partnerships. Additionally, Walapay intends to scale its team to support financial institutions transitioning to modern payment systems and to integrate AI-driven commerce into its existing infrastructure.
