Volvo is discontinuing the EX40 model in the US market after the 2027 model year. The vehicle, originally launched in 2019 as the XC40 Recharge, will remain available for sale in European markets but will be removed from the lineups in the US and Canada.

Following the removal of the EX30, EC40, and EX40, the EX60 has become the brand's most affordable electric vehicle in the US, with a starting price of $59 795. The EX60 features an 800V architecture and a native NACS charging port for Tesla Supercharger access.

To address the entry-level segment, Volvo plans to introduce the new EX50 electric crossover by the end of 2027. The vehicle will be built on the SPA3 platform and is expected to retail for under $50 000, positioning it below the current EX60 model.

The company filed a trademark for the EX50 name with the EUIPO on July 14, 2026. Reports indicate the upcoming crossover will be taller and longer than the outgoing EX40, offering improved interior space, faster charging capabilities, and an extended driving range.
