Volkswagen has expanded its battery-related recall to include Audi models, specifically targeting 9,048 units of the Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron from the 2024 and 2025 model years. This follows a previous recall of 22,524 Volkswagen ID.4 SUVs manufactured between 2023 and 2026.

The recall stems from a risk of thermal propagation, where charging the battery beyond 80% capacity may trigger a fire under specific conditions. While the root cause remains unidentified, Audi is advising owners to restrict charging to 80% until a permanent remedy is developed.

Audi owners can visit authorized dealerships for a diagnostic check, where technicians may apply a temporary software limit to the battery charge. The company plans to begin mailing interim notification letters to affected owners on December 18, 2026.

The scope of the issue extends beyond North America. Volkswagen Group recently issued recalls through the German Federal Motor Transport Authority affecting 72,668 electric vehicles globally, including 9,881 units in Germany. These actions cover various models, including the ID. Buzz, ID.3, ID.4, ID.7, and Cupra Born.
