Volkswagen Group has announced a global recall affecting approximately 2.86 million vehicles due to a potential defect in the steering system. The issue stems from the corrosion of mounting bolts, which could lead to failure of the steering mechanism if the bolts break.
The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) confirmed the recall, noting that about 960,000 vehicles are affected in the German market alone. Volkswagen brand vehicles account for 2.16 million units, specifically models like Golf, Tiguan, and Touran produced between September 24, 2013, and July 1, 2024.
The recall also includes nearly 700,000 Audi Q3 SUVs manufactured from October 31, 2017, to May 23, 2024. Volkswagen identified the defect during internal quality checks and describes the recall as a preventive measure. No injuries linked to this issue have been reported, and the company has not advised owners to stop driving their vehicles.
