Visa has received official approval from the People's Bank of China to prepare for the establishment of a bank card clearing institution within the country. This development marks a significant step for the digital payment company as it seeks to expand its presence in the Chinese market.
CEO Ryan McInerney stated that this milestone reflects the company's long-term commitment to the region. Visa plans to follow all regulatory requirements set by the central bank to begin domestic operations as soon as possible.
The company will now proceed with the necessary steps to finalize the setup and launch its clearing services. Once operational, Visa will join existing licensed entities in China, such as China UnionPay, Express (Hangzhou) Technology Services, and NetsUnion-MasterCard Information Technology.
