Uzbekistan has officially become the 77th signatory of the Artemis Accords. The signing ceremony took place in Samarkand, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov signing the agreement during a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The Artemis Accords establish principles for safe, transparent, and responsible civil space exploration. These include commitments to peaceful cooperation, the sharing of scientific data, and the preservation of historical sites in space.
Uzbekistan is currently developing a national space program and aims to launch its first CubeSat by 2028. Additionally, the country is scheduled to host the International Astronautical Congress in 2028.
The Artemis Accords were founded in 2020 by NASA, the U.S. State Department, and seven other nations. The initiative aims to coordinate lunar and deep space activities among governments and private companies.
